Senior Women's Cricket
The national women's squad is comprised of players from Brasilia. Hopefully other cities will provide players in the future, but for now, we are it. The team played well in Buenos Aires in early February, going close to a win in 2 of the 4 losses against a full strength Argentina side.
Then in May, the team caught the attention of everyone there in Miami at the ICC tournament- no wins, but competitive matches, especially against the eventual undefeated team, Trinindad and Tobago (development team). The general consensus was that this team has plenty of talent and is a team to watch. Three players, Juliana, Luiza and Karina, were chosen to attend an intensive cricket course in Trinidad in 2010.
The women's team also participated in the men's league in Brasilia and the national Twenty20 tournament in September, when they won 2 matches against the São Paulo and Brasilia teams, using adapted scoring rules.
They continue to train every Sunday morning at Centro Olímpico, UnB, plus Monday and Wednesday nights, currently at 110Norte.
A very busy and positive year overall.
Senior Men's Cricket
The demographic is clearly changing with men's cricket in Brasilia. This year, Brazilians far outnumbered the ex-pat/gringo contingent. The Brasilia Cricket Club struggled to field a full team in some matches but still were lucky to win the Final of the Liga Brasiliense The all-Brazilian Candangos had a good season and were unlucky to lose the final.
The national T20 tournament was held in the capital in September. We did pretty badly - didn't win a game actually. Room for improvement there.
The national squad which recently won the ICC Americas Division 3 title in Chile contained 6 players from Brasilia, plus the coach. Next step is Div 2, the Bahamas Feb 1-8, 2010.
Junior Cricket
Seemingly out of nowhere, a squad of 20 boys aged 14-17 has emerged this year, due in large part to the hard work of their coach, Rudy. They train every Sunday morning and are learning the game very quickly. Next year will provide many opportunities for them.

The out-going President, Ian Webster, deserves a lot of praise for all the work he has done over the past five years as president. He will now concentrate on his role as President of the national cricket association.
I'm off to Terra Australis this Friday and will be back on deck mid-January. Looking forward to an even bigger year for Brasilia cricket in 2010.
Vincent Bastick
